CHICAGO RADIO LEGEND RICHARD STEELE on ‘JAZZ ALPHABET’

“If you believe in the old adage that says “a picture is worth a thousand words”, then the 26 sketches of jazz musicians whose last names represent the 26 letters of the alphabet, must be worth at least 26 thousand words! This book, The Jazz Alphabet, written and illustrated by Neil Shapiro with a forward by Neil Tesser is a keeper! It’s worthy of a prominent spot in your collection of jazz literature. Congrats to Neil Shapiro on a wonderful tip of the hat to jazz.”

‘JAZZ ALPHABET’ REVIEWED BY PATRICK REARDON

From Patrick: “There are many pleasures in Neil Shapiro’s newly published The Jazz Alphabet — and you don’t have to be a jazz aficionado to enjoy them… Neil does something — some magic beyond my ken — with the lettering he employs on the righthand pages that makes the words leap up into my face. Some of it has to do with the mix of colors, some with a mix of fonts. I don’t understand it, but I do know it is beautiful and spooky, sort of like jazz.”
